Elementary School Programs
Ourselves (Kindergarten)
Ourselves uses compelling stories read aloud by the volunteer along with hands-on activites to demonstrate helping, working, earning, and saving.
Our Families (1st Grade)
Our Families emphasizes the roles people play in the local economy and engages students with activities about needs and wants, jobs, tools, and skills, and interdependence.
Our Community (2nd Grade)
Our Community explores the interdependent roles of workers in a community, the work they perform, and how communities work.
Our City (3rd Grade)
Our City studies careers, the skills people need to work in those careers, and how businesses contribute to a city.
Our Region (4th Grade)
Our Region introduces the relationship between the natural, human, and capital resources found in different regions and explores regional businesses that produce goods and services for consumers.
Our Nation (5th Grade)
Our Nation examines how businesses operate in the United States. Students role play business ownership, interview for jobs, and learn different methods of production while exploring various economic issues that impact business.
Middle Grades Programs
JA Global Marketplace (Grade 6)
JA Global Marketplace provides practical examples that help students gain a perspective on how goods flow in the global economy and the effect globalization has on students' lives. It also introduces students to people and cultures throughout the world.
JA Economics for Success (Grades 7 or 8)
JA Economics for Success provides an opportunity for students to begin asking life questions and exploring how their academic, economic and ethical choices affect their lives. Important topics that are introduced include: personal finance, individual values, interests and skills, managing credit and insurance.
JA America Works (Grades 7 or 8)
JA America Works educates students about the role entrepreneurship played in the United States, by focusing on key elements of American business and economic development.
High School Programs
JA Economics
JA Economics examines the fundamental concepts of micro, macro and international economics over the course of 7 sessions.
JA Exploring Economics
JA Exploring Economics fosters lifelong skills and knowledge about how our economy works including micro, macro, personal and international economics.
JA P.A.S.S.
JA P.A.S.S. project provides meaningful instruction that raises awareness of the vast range of career opportunities available in the sports related field and engages students in learning more about the nature of business. The program is culminated with a visit from a "Sports Celebrity".
JA Success Skills
JA Success Skills develops students' interpersonal effectiveness and problem-solving skills necessary for the workplace. Through engaging activities, the students appreciate the importance of personal appearance, professional demeanor, punctuality, and written and oral communication.
JA Careers with a Purpose
JA Careers with a Purpose has hands-on classroom activities and local, regional, and global essay competitions. It introduces students to the importance of seeking careers that help them realize their life potential and noble purpose. The program demonstrates the importance of positive values, life maxims, and ethical decision-making within the context of career and life decisions.
JA Business Ethics
JA Business Ethics enables students learn to recognize, analyze and apply basic terminology, theories and concepts common to the study of ethics. They explore and analyze their own ethical values and philosophy, estaablish ethical priorities and learn to evaluate their decision-making process.
JA Presents: NEFE High School Financial Literacy Program
NEFE introduces students to the importance of making wise financial decisions. The program demonstrates the importance of planning, goal-setting, and thoughtful decision-making within the context of personal financial decisions through 5 JA volunteer - led sessions.
JA Afterschool
JA Dollars And Sense (Grades 3, 4 and 5)
JA Dollars and Sense teaches students how to save, spend and share money and instills these essential skills in the students which shows them how entrepreneurial thinking and financial savvy can transform an idea into a business that can generate jobs and wealth for themselves and their communities.
JA It's My Business (Graades 6, 7 and 8)
JA It's My Business teaches middle grade students entrepreneurial skills through innovative activities that focus on filling a need, knowing your customer and product, being creative and innovative, and believing in yourself.
JA Company Program (Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12)
JA Company Program puts theory to practice by as students develop their own money-making business from concept to business plan, financing, execution, sales and ultimately, growth or demise. The experience fosters understanding and appreciation of the opportunities and responsibilities each person has in the workplace.
Signature Programs
"JA 4 Kids" - Parental Involvement Program
The JA 4 Kids Program is an initiative to reach every child in a school with the JA programs. Parents are actively involved by volunteering in each classroom so that all students can benefit from JA. This whole-school approach enables administrators, teachers, parents and students to work together to provide the JA experience. JA 4 Kids has completed its 9th year and continues to grow in popularity as schools are requesting more JA programs and more parents are taking an active role in their childrens' education.
"JA in a Day" - Corporate One-Day Program
This unique one-day program format involves community businesses teaming up with local schools to deliver the 5 session elementary curriculum to students throughout the course of a given school day. Students have the opportunity to learn from area business people and the employees are able to be involved in their community by volunteering during business hours. JA in a Day has completed its 8th year in Rhode Island.
JA Job Shadow - Capstone Program
JA Job Shadow program provides an engaging, academically enriching and experiential introduction to the world of work for middle & high school students. The program centers around a job shadow experience at a local business complemented by three classroom sessions focused on the topic of work readiness.
